Kenneth .E.Hagin once said wrong thinking produces wrong
believing, which results into wrong speaking,we eventually get
wrong results.
Not many believers realize the import of how wrong believing
could destroy their lives and ministries.
James warned in this light.
James 1:13(KJV)
13[Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God:
for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any
man:]
He exhorts against believing wrongly.
James 1:16-17 (KJV)
16[Do not err, my beloved brethren.]
17[Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and
cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning.]
Many have been taught that God punishes them when they sin.
They wrongly quote the scriptures out of context to support
this heresy.
By the way what was all that suffering of Christ for if you will
still be punished for the very thing He suffered for u?
2 Corinthians 5:19(KJV)
19[To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto
himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath
committed unto us the word of reconciliation.]
Hebrews 10:10-14 (KJV)
10[By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of
the body of Jesus Christ once ] for all[.]
11[And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering
oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away
sins:]
12[But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for
ever, sat down on the right hand of God;]
13[From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his
footstool.]
14[For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are
sanctified.]
This is very clear .
Some have misquoted
Hebrews 12:5-7 (KJV)
5[And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto
you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening
of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:] 6[For
whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son
whom he receiveth.] 7[If ye endure chastening, God dealeth
with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not?]
Before I delve into the errors latent in not giving this verse a
thorough understanding, lets try and view how God
rebukes,corrects and disciplines .
Jesus is God made manifest in the flesh (John1:14)
He is the Very image of the Father.
More than a servant ,He is deity.
The Son of God.
John 14:9 (KJV)
9Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and
yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath
seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the
Father?
We saw Jesus rebuke his disciples .
At no time did he lay sickness on them ,lack, misery to teach
them by experience .
From how many have seen God including job,we ought to have
seen Jesus confirm those thoughts.
Made some blind, killed some babies...wrought some mighty
works in these regard.
Brought some thunderstorms
Caused some road accidents
Rather He healed the sick ,raised the dead ,supplied
needs,kept His disciples from harm.
Calmed the storm.
Even though His disciples "dropped the ball "very often,He
never disciplined them beyond correction via instructions.
Peter didn't lose his sight when he denied, thomas didn't lose
his home ,Matthew didn't lose his job.
Yet he rebuked them but not using evil.
He never did nor will do evil.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost
and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all
that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
He did good .healed the sick.Set free those oppressed.
He taught us the Father's character .
Matthew 5:44-45 (KJV)
44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that
curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them
which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in
heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the
good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
The Father is kind to the wicked!
If we won't believe a believer who kills, maims or destroys
another's goods and turns around to say "God told me",why
then do we imagine God could author evil or worse still permit
it!
That said.
Our Father is good and merciful .
If He were to punish sins NO ONE will be left in the world
gone by,present age or the one to come.
Hence He punished His son (Himself)for sins forever!
That said,
Back to Hebrews 12:5-6
This text was quoted from a portion of Scripture.
Lets go to the source.
Proverbs 3:11-12 (KJV)
11[My son, despise not the chastening of the ] Lord[; neither
be weary of his correction:]
12[For whom the ] Lord[ loveth he correcteth; even as a father
the son ] in whom[ he delighteth.]
Please compare with
Hebrews 12:5-6 (KJV)
5[And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto
you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening
of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:] 6[For
whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son
whom he receiveth.]
Any difference?
The word scourge isn't in the source(proverbs)
The Writer of Hebrews didn't put it so.
It was an error of translation .
I personally found it missing in very early and authentic
manuscripts !
The word scourge is only used in Greek texts for criminals!
Used by persecutors of Jesus,
Wicked hands,
Matthew 27:26(KJV)
26Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
(referenced in mark15:15,John 19:1)
Used by Paul's persecutors .
Acts 22:24 (KJV)
24[The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the
castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging;
that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.]
Used for the wicked beatings of those who riled against and
killed righteous saints of old
Hebrews 11:36(KJV)
36[And others had trial of ] cruel[ mockings and scourgings,
yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:]
A Father doesn't scourge His children!
Luke 11:11-13 (KJV)
11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he
give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him
a serpent?
12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
God correct us by Instruction.
Using the scriptures .
His Word!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16[All scripture ] is[ given by inspiration of God, and ] is
[ profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:]
This is how me mature.
2 Timothy 3:17 (KJV)
17[That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished
unto all good works.]
The translators sure got that quote wrong.
It's not in the spirit of New Testament scripture.
It's not true of our Father.
It's was never used in the book of proverbs where this was
quoted from!
Next time a scourge comes ,realize quickly it's the enemy and
not your Father!
Resist the devil !
Blessed?
My Father is Good. His corrections are good.He does it
through His Word!
