We must stay abreast with the facts of the scriptures.
The scriptures teach concerning two covenants. The old and
new covenants. Oftentimes we think it’s a series.
Series one is the old covenant, series two the new. Hence in
our imaginations we assume they are complements or even
supplements.
How our imaginations have failed us. The old is thus called
because it is OUTDATED AND EXPIRED.
Jesus warned about putting new wine in old wineskins
Mark 2:21-22 KJV
[21] No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old
garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from
the old, and the rent is made worse. [22] And no man putteth
new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the
bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred:
but new wine must be put into new bottles.
. How we have done this too often. We often practice both
covenants side by side! We must quickly know it's an error.
These two covenants aren't the same. One has REPLACED the
other.
Thus everything has changed, from culture, relationships,
worship, service, prayer etc.! Attempting to mix an expired
practice with a new one will give a bad product.
This is the norm today in many places!
Let’s patiently examine the following scriptures
2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the
new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter
killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in
stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not
stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his
countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather
glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more
doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this
respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more
that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great
plainness of speech:
Obviously, we have a clear distinction of the covenants.
Death vs. Life.
Condemnation vs
Righteousness.
Spirit vs. Flesh.
The Old is DONE AWAY WITH!
Hebrews 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent
ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better
covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no
place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come,
saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of
the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant,
and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of
Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into
their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them
a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and
every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall
know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins
and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first
old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to
vanish away.
Again the Old Testament is referred to as expired!
The New made the first old and outdated!
When we seek to merge both we end up confused in our
worship of God, and general attitude to the faith
A few salient facts:
1. The Old is the shadow, the New is the substance
Hebrews 10:1 KJV
[1] For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and
not the very image of the things, can never with those
sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the
comers thereunto perfect.
Colossians 2:16-17 KJV
[16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in
respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath
days :
[17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of
Christ.
2. The Old justified no ONE, Justification is only by the New
Covenant(refer to 2 Cor. 3 above and
Galatians 3:10-14 KJV
[10] For as many as are of the works of the law are under the
curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not
in all things which are written in the book of the law to do
them.
[11] But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God,
it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith
. [12] And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them
shall live in them. [13] Christ hath redeemed us from the curse
of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed
is every one that hangeth on a tree: [
14] That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles
through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the
Spirit through faith.
3. The Old was for ISRAEL and the New, ALL NATIONS
(Including Israel)
Seen this? I am a product of the new covenant in the blood of
Jesus, not the Old covenant of the blood of bulls and animals.
I function with the reality and not in types and shadows! I am
thankful for the new covenant!
