Bible Study 4
I caught the rhema! This is a popular phrase used by some
when they haven't taken the time to study and show
themselves approved.
Rhema simply put are the words that make up a statement.
Logos is the statement! Logos precedes rhema as Logos is
the thought and reason.
We can safely say the words of the Prophets are the
"rhema"
of the scriptures. The Logos is A PERSON-CHRIST JESUS. We
aren’t to be
searching for words to use or phrases to hold on
to, we are to READ ALL THE WORDS! It is when this is done
that we fully comprehend the Logos. Looking for "rhema
oftentimes leads most folks into reading scriptures out of
context. The scriptures already have its message, its Logos,
its purpose: The Word- Christ Jesus! Let’s read some
scriptures again.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye
have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
The Scriptures here refer to EVERYTHING written, hence when
they are read together, put together, placed side by side,
ONLY
one message will flow forth- Christ Jesus!
2 Timothy 3: 15 And that from a child thou hast known the
holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in
righteousness.
Here Paul commends Timothy's diligence with the Scriptures
(Genesis through Malachi). He says however that the
scriptures have (had) only one purpose- Salvation through
FAITH THAT IS IN CHRIST! No revs, no esoteric flows. Just
all
that Christ has done!
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.
A workman will rightly divide (cut through the scriptures,
make
a way and direct his paths) to the Word of Truth- Christ
Jesus!
No shortcuts, no fresh ideas, no hidden meanings, ONLY the
Word of Truth! This is what is approved unto God!
The Scriptures (Genesis to Malachi) were referred to as the
Prophets or Scriptures of the Prophets or the Prophecy of
the
scriptures, hence Peter’s
admonition here:
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the
scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:
but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy
Ghost.
The meaning of private interpretation refers to ORIGIN
(SOURCE). And the next verse points us to the source- The
Spirit of God!
Peter had earlier further explained on the source of these
prophets in his first epistle.
1 Peter 1: 10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired
and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that
should come unto you:
11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of
Christ
which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand
the
sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but
unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported
unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with
the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the
angels desire to look into.
The Spirit of Christ (The Spirit of God Romans 8:9-10)
testified
of Himself- Christ Jesus.
What is the testimony?
His sufferings and The Glory that would follow. His
sufferings
were fulfilled in the 4 gospels! The Glory that follows
would be
written by men of The Spirit in the Epistles! Listen to
Jesus
himself:
Luke 24
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to
enter
into His glory?
27And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded
unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning
himself.
Genesis to Malachi PROPHESIED (spoke ahead of time, in
types and shadows and many symbols) of the sufferings of
Jesus (His incarnation, temptation, rejection, crucifixion,
death, burial, and descent to hell) and the glory to follow
(His
resurrection, ascension and exaltation to the right hand of
The
Father). This was what Jesus showed them.
Thus Genesis to Malachi is a mix of Prophecies, types and
shadows of all of Christ’s
sufferings for sin and His glory that
was to be revealed afterwards.
In the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, His
sufferings
are fulfilled and we see a part of the glory (resurrection
and
ascension).
From the book of Acts to Revelation- We see an exalted
Christ, not a suffering one. The Glory that followed! Here,
we
have the scriptures well-explained as the epistles teach the
fulfilment of the prophecies, promises and remove the veil
of
types and shadows and we see HIM- CHRIST JESUS!
No hidden meanings or revs! The scriptures have a Message.
The Old Testament had it in many words of the Prophets
which we can safely refer to as rhema, the Epistles have
fully
revealed it in its doctrine, fulfilment and understanding-
LOGOS!
A wise man once said ‘The
Old testament is the New
Testament concealed, The New testament is the Old
Testament revealed’.
Succinct! The Writings of The Old
Testament are Christ concealed, The New Testament, Christ
revealed!
Don’t look for
rhema, read with the aid of The Logos- Christ
Unveiled!
Hope we are clear. Christ is the Logos of the rhema of the
prophets!
I call you blessed
